Pounding the streets of London to raise pounds!

VMLM Runners 2016

The Virgin Money London Marathon 2016 is just a few days away now, and the HRCC 12-strong team of dedicated runners are in the last stages of their gruelling training regimes.

Lee Corbett, Alex Irvin, Nicola Devitt, Laura Elborn, Adam Friend, Alison Jiggins, Timothy Hewitt, Ashley Cass, Meryl Lilley, Kevin Buzec, Mitchell Hayes and the HRCC’s fundraising team’s very own Claire Dobson, will be pounding the streets of London on 24 April to raise pounds and awareness for HRCC.

Patient and fundraiser Lee Corbett explains why he is taking up the challenge:
“It’s sad to say but we all know someone affected by cancer, a loved one, a family member or a friend. It affects the individual that is ill, and also the people around them.

I’ve been lucky, beating cancer twice with the support of my wife Angela, family and friends, but like most people I’ve lost people to cancer as well.

The experience of my treatment left Angela and I feeling that we wanted to do something, to give something back. HRCC provides support for the patient and the family which during my treatment was key for both of us. Just knowing people were there to talk, to have a massage, to de-stress you, was key to getting through this period in our lives.

We have held a number of fundraisers to support this great Charity, but running the VirginMoney London Marathon is a personal challenge. Those that know me will know I’m not the fittest, in fact the only thing I’ve run is a bath!

It’s also an opportunity to continue my fundraising for this amazing Charity and as I am looking forward to starting a family soon I would love the opportunity to get into shape.”

Good luck to all our team of runners, Helen Rollason Cancer Charity will be there on the day to cheer you all on. If you are in the crowd be sure to look out for our runners wearing blue running vests with our logo on, and give them a wave.
