Welly Walk

Saturday September 25, 2010

Hatfield Forest, Takeley, Essex, CM22 6NE

A fun walk through Hatfield Forest on Saturday in aid of the charity is hoped  to have raised in excess of £1500. The welly walk saw more than 100 people don their wellington boots for a 5k (3.2 mile) walk through National Trust medieval woodland to raise vital cash for the charity.

Community relations manager Angela Lodge said: “The turnout was superb and almost everyone who took part wore their wellies – most of them were jazzy and really colourful – it was brilliant! It was lovely to see families out on a Saturday morning; many of them brought their dogs too.  Money from the walk will help continue funding services offered at our support centres – including those at our centre in Sawbridgeworth.”

Chairman of Uttlesford District Council Cllr Sue Schneider, who officially opened the walk, said: “I was very pleased to be asked to open the event as it was fantastic. There were some amazing wellies on show – many of them worthy of a fashion catwalk! The welly walk will enable the charity to continue its work in the field of research and the valuable support it gives to cancer sufferers and their families.”

Mrs Lodge added: “Our thanks go to Cllr Sue Schneider and her family for officially launching the welly walk, to the volunteer helpers on the day, to the volunteers in the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity shop in Bell Street, Sawbridgeworth and to everyone who took part and gave sponsorship money.”
