Volunteer Counsellors
The Helen Rollason Cancer Charity requires volunteer counsellors to complement the range of support services offered in our cancer support centres in Chelmsford and Sawbridgeworth.
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to work across a range of issues with those touched by cancer, both patients and family members, at all stages of the cancer journey.
Ideally the counsellors will work within a person-centred discipline and be in possession of the Diploma in Counseling. Hours negotiable.

Hertfordshire Centre Coordinator (part-time, job share)
Department: Cancer Support Centres
Location: Based at the new Rivers Hospital Centre in Sawbridgeworth
Hours: During term time: 9am – 2.30pm Thursday with extension to Fridays 9am – 2.30pm once demand is fully established.
During school holiday periods: 9am – 2.30pm Monday to Thursday with extension to Fridays once demand is fully established.
Responsible to: Cancer Support Centres Manager
Purpose of role: To ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day running of the Rivers Hospital Centre, and raising the profile of the charity amongst clients.
Key responibilities
Systems and Procedures
-
To ensure that the centre is run in accordance with the standard Helen Rollason Cancer Support Centres Policy & Procedures Manual.
Administration
Keeping client records up to date.
-
Completing client assessment and therapy forms.
-
Maintaining an efficient and organised filing system.
-
Writing standard GP referral letters.
-
Making client appointments.
-
Ordering stationery.
-
Ordering centre supplies and maintaining sufficient stock levels.

Updating and maintaining the centre database and sending it to the office once a quarter for the newsletter mailing.

Administering the laundry and cleaning of the centre.

Maintain the standard weekly and monthly reports and ensure the information is relayed to the Centres Manager promptly.

Handling donations, banking monies, sending the relevant paperwork to the office.
Clients
Meeting and greeting clients at the centre.

To ensure that clients are satisfied with the service they are given.

To ensure any client complaints are dealt with politely, efficiently and effectively and to pass details of any complaint on to the Centres Manager.
Staff, Volunteers & Students

Rostering and supervising staff and volunteers, in collaboration with the Centres Manager.

To ensure therapists are aware of appointments and any cancellations.
Networking/Fundraising

Raising the awareness of the charity amongst clients by networking whenever the opportunity arises and subject to client well being.

Helping to organise a programme of events to raise the profile of the charity in the local area, as agreed with the Centres Manager and with the active support of the Chelmsford office fundraising team.

Experience/Qualifications
-
Educated to GCSE or ‘O’ Level standard or equivalent.

A medical background and a working knowledge of oncology are desirable but not essential.
-
A basic knowledge of complementary therapies would be beneficial but training can be given.
