Friends reunited after 30 years

When HRCC volunteer Sandra Taylor walked into our Danbury shop for her first day on the job she was astonished to be welcomed by a friend she hadn’t seen in more than 30 years.
Long-time volunteer Shelagh Allison-Lawton was equally amazed to see Sandra walk through the doors.
“We both looked at each other and thought ‘I know that face’,” says Shelagh. “It was a complete blast from the past!”
Shelagh and Sandra met in the early eighties through their daughters’ mutual love of horses. Shelagh’s parents owned stables at their family home, and that’s where her daughter, Deborah, took care of pony, Arran.
Fast forward 30 years and Sandra and Shelagh now work together in the Danbury shop on a Saturday and are thoroughly enjoying their rekindled friendship.
“We love Saturdays!” says Sandra. “It’s wonderful to be working alongside Shelagh, chatting over old times, while helping to raise funds for such a wonderful Charity. All my family get involved with HRCC.
“I also volunteer one day a week helping in the Head Office of the Charity in Hatfield Peverel, and my husband, Dick, goes out and about picking up tin collection pots.
“This year my daughter Kate will be swapping horses for bikes, along with her brother Paul, my daughter-in-law Louise, and my two grandchildren will be taking part in HRCC’s Ride for Helen. Myself and Dick will be on hand on the day too, volunteering as marshals.”
If you are in the Danbury area on a Saturday, pop in and say hello to Sandra and Shelagh; they will be waiting to greet you with a smile and a story.
