Inspirational Runners take part in Virgin Money London Marathon for Helen Rollason Cancer Charity

The Virgin Money London Marathon takes place on Sunday 22nd April 2018 and Helen Rollason Cancer Charity has 14 brave fundraisers running the world famous route!

Starting in historical Greenwich and finishing in The Mall leading to Buckingham Palace, this world-renowned route takes in many of London’s top sights whilst hundreds of thousands of supporters line the streets. Her Majesty The Queen will step onto a special podium in front of the Round Tower in the grounds of Windsor Castle to push the start button at 10am to officially start the event, and set off 40,000 runners on the famous 26.2 miles.

Famous faces running the London Marathon this year include Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans, business woman Katie Price, Saturday’s singer Rochelle Humes, Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills and chef Gordon Ramsey.

Last year, Helen Rollason Cancer Charity were blown away by the dedication and commitment of their 2017 marathon team; 10 runners took part and worked extremely hard to raise a massive £23,000!

Chris Howe, 43 from Gosfield near Halstead is running in memory of his wife Tanya who sadly passed away from bowel cancer in 2017 at just 41.

“Tanya would spend a year having her chemotherapy, treatment and tests at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford and the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity Support Centre at Rochelle House. All the staff, doctors, nurses and even the other patients made her feel so welcome and normal. They got us all through the saddest and most worrying of times and I can’t thank the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity enough on the truly astounding job they do.

Sadly in June 2017 my wife Tanya lost her battle with cancer. She was such a truly inspirational and brave woman. We shall never forget her; especially her smile. So I am running the 2018 London Marathon to give something back to this incredible and valuable charity, raising money to help other people who are affected by cancer to get the much needed help and overwhelming support, just like Tanya did.”

Tanya’s sister, Rachel Cox, 39 from Ipswich is also running alongside Chris for the charity.

“The Helen Rollason Cancer Charity Support Centre was a sanctuary for Tanya through her toughest of times. I would often speak to Tanya after her treatments and she always sounded uplifted and had many stories to tell about the day’s events.

I once attended a treatment day with Tanya where I witnessed the kindness and warm hearted approach of all staff – I truly believe the charity helped Tanya to be brave and encouraged her strength within while battling against her cancer.”
