Over three hundred and fifty supporters joined the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity for their Rural Ramble at The Forgotten Gardens of Easton Lodge on Saturday 30th April raising over £5,000 for the charity!
The event was kindly sponsored by Wilkins & Sons and the sun shone throughout the day much to the delight of the guests. Visitors had the unique opportunity to enjoy a scenic walk around the surrounding countryside and The Forgotten Gardens of Easton Lodge, just outside the historic town of Great Dunmow. There were three distance options for participants to choose from; 10 miles, 4 miles and 1 mile family trail and as part of the visit a delicious cream tea was served with each ticket.
The gardens which are entirely maintained by volunteers, comprised of a walled kitchen garden dating back to the 18th century, a wild flowers area for the bees, formal gardens, beautiful carpets and expansive colourful displays of flowers.
Participants were full of praise for the event;
“Beautiful walk on a glorious day.”
“An amazingly beautiful walk, we enjoyed sharing our house envy as we went and the signage was perfect!”
“A perfect day for a lovely walk, cream tea and fundraising.”
“It was breath-taking; the Essex trails never fail to amaze me. Well sign posted and lovely friendly fellow walkers.”
“The Gardens of Easton Lodge are a lovely place to visit; I hadn’t been before. I do and will be recommending Rural Ramble to everyone as I really enjoyed the event!”
Karen Mitchell, Community Fundraiser at Helen Rollason Cancer Charity said; “We couldn’t wait to return to The Forgotten Gardens of Easton Lodge! The weather was kind with light winds and a sunny, dry day which showed off the gardens beautifully. It was wonderful to see families, groups of friends, children and dogs enjoying the walk and the stunning gardens once again.
Sponsorship money is still coming in but so far we have raised over £5,000 – a fantastic amount! All the money raised will go towards the valuable work we do in the community supporting people living with cancer.
A huge thank you to Wilkin & Sons for sponsoring Rural Ramble. We couldn’t organise such an amazing and successful event without the help of our great team of volunteers, staff, supporters, volunteer photographers and of course all of the volunteers at The Forgotten Gardens of Easton Lodge.
We would love for our supporters to join us at one of our other events coming up in 2022; A Vintage Day Out Suffolk is taking place at Trinity Park Ipswich on Sunday 3rd July and A Vintage Day Out Essex is taking place at Cressing Temple Barns near Braintree on Sunday 10th July.
