A volunteer’s tale

Volunteer Jane Harding explains why she has been helping HRCC for the last three years in the Danbury shop, and why she would encourage others to get involved.

“I started volunteering for HRCC after losing my mum to cancer, and even though she didn’t use the facilities at Rochelle House in Chelmsford herself, I realised how important a place like that was for people in a similar situation to her.

I volunteer on a regular basis at the Danbury shop which has allowed me to meet a lot of great people, not just other volunteers but also our lovely customers that come in to browse and buy!

As well as the shop I have helped marshal at the charity’s annual Ride for Helen event for the last two years, and again it is amazing meeting so many other people out there helping to raise funds for the charity. But my biggest volunteering highlight has to be the Himalaya trek I completed last November. A fantastic experience which I would definitely recommend to anyone else considering doing something similar.

Volunteering for HRCC lets you become involved as much or as little as you want and whatever it is that you do you know you are supporting people living with cancer. Go on, give it a try!”
