On Saturday 24th February, Rivermead Rotary Club hosted a star studded dinner and dance at the beautiful Braxted Park, bringing in over £7,000 for Helen Rollason Cancer Charity!
The event was attended by over 80 guests, including champion jockey and winner of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Helen Rollason Award, Bob Champion MBE and HRCC Patron and BBC Essex Radio presenter Sadie Nine.
Guests enjoyed a fabulous champagne reception in the Orangery, before being taken through to the magnificent Ballroom where dinner would be served. Guest speaker Bob Champion MBE spoke about his own battle with cancer at the age of 31, and his sports career spanning over 50 years, while compere Sadie Nine also spoke about her own cancer journey.
Dinner was followed by a lively auction hosted by HRCC Fundraising Manager Kate Alden, with auction lots donated by Genesis, Wilkin & Sons, Chelmsford City Racecourse, Millie’s Beach Huts, Southend United FC, Braxted Park Golf Club and more. Live music was provided by The Ed Zachary band who got everyone up on the dancefloor with an array of music from the 50’s, 60’s and present day.
Terry Green, President of the Rivermead Rotary Club said; “The event was a big success and a great way to celebrate the work of the charity whilst also raising vital funds. Helen Rollason Cancer Charity is the Chelmsford Rivermead Rotary Club’s charity this year. The dinner and dance event, together with a quiz night in May, Bollywood evening in March and Baddow 10 mile run, should raise more than our £10,000 target.”
Sadie Nine said “I have had reflexology and massage from HRCC in the past, so of course I was very keen to attend this event as Patron of the charity. My husband Al and I had such a wonderful time and we’d like to extend our thanks to everyone involved.”
Kate Alden, Fundraising Manager for HRCC said “What a fantastic night! I’d like to thank the Rivermead Rotary Club for hosting such a wonderful event for the charity and everyone who attended. The band got us all up and boogying on the dance floor, the food was delicious, and the money raised will continue to help us support those living with cancer.”
