On Saturday 10th February, a celebration of the female voice took place at Westcliff High School for Boys with four choirs; Cantare, Rainham Ladies, Boreham Ladies and the Orpheus Singers holding a ‘Singing Birds’ concert for Helen Rollason Cancer Charity.
A total of £319.22 was kindly donated via bucket collections at the event. The wonderful concert was attended by Cantare based in Southend, Rainham Ladies from across the Thames in Kent, Boreham Ladies from north of the county and The Orpheus Singers based in Hadleigh. Each choir sang a selection from their own repertoire and then combined to sing John Rutter’s ‘For the Beauty of the Earth’.
Compere for the evening was BBC Essex’s Sadie Nine who entertained the audience with her humour and delightful singing. Having received first-hand experience of the care and support provided by Helen Rollason Cancer Charity, she made a very personal appeal.
Claire Dobson, Senior Community Fundraiser at Helen Rollason Cancer Charity said “On behalf of the charity I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the choirs who took part in this fantastic event.
This donation will make a real difference in our efforts to support people living with cancer. It will enable twelve people to receive a counselling session or six clients to benefit from either a reflexology or massage treatment.”
