HRCC supporters Jo Jacobs tells us in her own words how her whole family have got involved with supporting HRCC.
“We started to fundraise for Helen Rollason Cancer Charity when my brother-in-law, John Wrigglesworth, was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Unfortunately he lost his fight against cancer in May 2012 at the age of 45, but during his illness he was supported by the charity in several ways, one of which was the reflexology which really helped to relax him.
I have a fear of heights and it was as a bit of fun between us when he set me up to do an abseil challenge. We decided it would be a good idea to raise money for a charity that was supporting him. The abseil took place two weeks before we lost him and he was there to cheer me on, although I still say that he was there to make sure I did it! I raised more than £4,000.
The following year in his memory my son, Michael, ran the VirginMoney London Marathon for the first time, supporting HRCC, in an amazing time of 3 hours 38 minutes and raised more than £5,000.
And this year my grandson, Charlie Matthews, my daughter’s oldest son, cycled 15 miles in the Ride for Helen cycling event with his dad, Karl, and has so far raised more than £100.
I am so proud of them all and so is my sister who has also benefited from the charities services during and since John’s death.”
